What the report is

A name-based criminal record check. An accredited police partner searches the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), the RCMP national database. It is the same national search a police station runs, and it is valid across Canada.

Criminal Record Check (CRC)

Shows criminal convictions. Used for many jobs, rentals and volunteer roles.

Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)

Everything in the CRC, plus outstanding charges, warrants, peace bonds, probation orders and conditional sentences. Licensing bodies often ask for it.

Not the right check if the role is with children or vulnerable people. That needs a Vulnerable Sector Check at a police station. Roles that need fingerprints also need a police station.

Ask before you buy

Send this to the person who asked for your check:

“Hi, I can get a name-based CPIC criminal record check online from Instant Record Check. An accredited Canadian police partner runs it, and you can verify it online. Will that work for this role? If you need the Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC), please tell me.”

How your employer can verify it

Each report has a serial number. Anyone can enter it with your last name on our Verify a Check page and see that the report is real and unchanged.
