An Enhanced Criminal Record Check uses the Police Information Portal (PIP) as well as other local and regional police databases to perform additional checks. This includes the following that is now included in a regular Criminal Record Check:
- Summary convictions, for five years, when identified.
- Findings of Guilt under the Youth Criminal Justice Act within the applicable disclosure period.
- Outstanding entries, such as charges and warrants, judicial orders, Peace Bonds, Probation, and Prohibition Orders.
- Absolute and conditional discharges for 1 or 3 years respectively.
You can get a Negative response status from a Criminal Record Check indicating that you have a clear criminal record, but due to past charges or other entries as mentioned above, it can return a Not Cleared status.
For example, if you had received a previous Record Suspension, this will result in a Negative response for your Criminal Record Check indicating that no criminal convictions have been found, however, the charges related to your past convictions will still be on record in the PIP database which will lead to a Not Cleared status for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check.
